Avalon Acres is located in the South Animas River Valley near Durango, Colorado. We are at the hub of all La Plata county attractions.
We are 12 miles south of Durango with short drives to Ignacio, Farmington and Aztec.
Antique Railroad
The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is only 15 minutes from your door. This historic 1880's Steam Powered Train takes passengers along one of the world's most scenic Rail lines.
Casinos
The Sky Ute Casino is less than 15 minutes away via a scenic drive through sandstone hoodoos, balanced rocks and Colorado farmland.
Fishing and Boating
Boaters can enjoy Arboles and Lake Navajo State Park. Fishing nearby includes Lake Vallecito, the Animas & Gold Medal Water San Juan river Avalon is truly centrally located to just about all of the local attractions.

You can also add Trimble Hot Springs and Pagosa Hot Springs to your itinerary while staying at Avalon.
Hunting
We are close to great hunting lands, motorcycle touring roads, and whitewater rivers (one runs through the property). The surrounding towns of Durango, Mancos and Pagosa Springs all have a number of commercial outfitters who can arrange and even guide your hunting trip.
Museums
We may be 1981 miles from the Smithsonian, but we have some fascinating Museums nearby. These museums provide detailed exhibits illuminating life in the old west and the culture of Native Americans.
Animas Museum - contains many items of frontier daily life, railroad memorabilia and even a few early cabins.
Aztec National Monument - culture of the Anasazi and explanation of their extensive ruins and great kiva
Silverton Museum - Mining history and the history of the railroads. Don't miss the early jail cells including a real ball and chain.
National Parks
Aztec, New Mexico with the Aztec Ruins National Monument are 20 miles south.
Mesa Verde National Park is just over an hour's drive.
Skiing Snowmobiling
Ski areas including Purgatory, Telluride, Silverton Mountain and Wolf Creek are all easy day trips.
Sight Seeing & Nature
World class sight seeing, hiking and biking nature watching in the San juan National Forest and Weminuche wilderness areas.

An Oasis for the Soul
'In addition to wildlife including mountain lions, geese, deer, rabbits, raccoons, chipmunks, fox and numerous birds that devour 150 pounds of birdseed per week. Children and those young at heart have the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of activities.
